Mumbletongue

Mumbletongue was ingrossed in digging into mud searching for an earthworm, when he heard the flapping of feet through the marsh. Grunting he turned around spotting the familiar face of his friend Flopbottom. He pulled his hand out of the mud revealing a long fat earthworm, in a gesture of what could look like a wave he lift the earth worm towards Flopbottom.
"Dreary Afternoon..." Spoke Flopbottom bending down with a grown to sit beside him. Mumbletongue snorted in reply nodding his head as he began to hook his earthworm.
"I daresay.....I daresay it is a dreary day, my.. my friend." He pulled the hook closer, so that it almost touched the end of his crooked long nose, squinting as he did so.
"Everythings all a bit blurry today, can't see several feet infront of meself." He sighed pushing the hook into the worm's middle. Flopbottom humphed at that, his back slumping a little more as he swished his legs in the brown water.
"Probably be blind tomorrow, not be able to tell light from day I shouldn't wonder old friend." Flopbottom commented patting Mumbletongue on the back comfortingly. " I should say..."
"Ouch!" Mumbletongue interrupted with a squeel jerking his hand away from his hook, a small stream of red oozing from the tip of his index finger. In an effort to stop the bleeding without thinking Mumbletongue put his webbed finger into his mouth. The next moment consisted of a series of choking and spitting and then moaning and more spitting. For Mumbletongue had forgotten that he still have mud on his hands.
"Blasted..." He said, spitting once more, shaking his stringing long hair as if that would get rid of the taste in his mouth.
"Oh, see now you are going blind, you have mistaken your finger for a worm." Flopbottom added, taking Mumbletongue's finger and examining it.
"Probably a rusty hook... infection is most likely to set in and your will most likely loose your finger." Flopbottom continued He pressed it between his fingers squeezing gently, Mumbletongue let out a whimper, holding his breath.
"My luck exactly...." Mumbletongue said with a grunt and a loud exhale of air. Taking his hand back, He picked up his worm and hook tossing the line into the water once more.
